We are very pleased, that the gallery (the area above the locker room) developed so well. The four group study rooms Banach, Hilbert, Sobolev and Krylov has met with much interest and are now occupied almost every day.

Recently we added two beanbag chairs, that you can use to relax during your study break.

Invitation to the semester opening on Tuesday 22 October at 6 p.m.

Poster Ausstellungseröffnung

The Institute of Mathematics continues its exhibition tradition in the library and welcomes the new winter semester with works by Violetta Richard on 22 October 2019 at 18:00 o'clock.

For Violetta Richard space, light, time, border and their dissolution became an theme early on and now she encounters them as an inexhaustible breeding ground for her works, especially in painting. Her artistic work encompasses an interdisciplinary search for the core of things.

The art-interested public and all mathematicians and students are cordially invited to the vernissage. Dr. Christina Thomson, Head of the Graphic Design Collection of the Art Library, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin gives an insight into the works. The Berlin silhouette artist Albrecht Wintterlin will be present at the event and will cast a spell over the guests with his hand-cut portraits, which you are welcome to take home with you. Admission is free, no registration is necessary.

We look forward to an interesting and entertaining evening with art, wine and good conversation.

If you are busy this evening, the exhibition will be open in the rooms of the Mathematische Fachbibliothek until 03 January 2020.

Exhibition Approximation Theory

Wednesday, 21. August 2019

An image of a swimmer and a reconstruction of it

Felipe Cucker and Hector Rodriguez use the Approximation Theory to reconstruct images from other images. They use e.g. Chinese characters, rectilinear or curvilinear elements. In this way, fascinating approximations are created that contain new dynamics.

The exhibition of Cucker and Rodriguez's works was opened for a conference in honor of Felipe Cucker - Felipe's Fest - and can be visited in the rooms of the Mathematical Library until September 13th.
