It is a three months study program for PhD students and students preparing to enter a PhD program in Discrete Mathematics or in Computer Science (in a broad sense).
The Predoc-Course is open and free of charge to all students of the Berlin Universities, as well as to participants from other places.
The language of the program is English.
Dates:
Bernd Gärtner: Linear Programming Methods (We/Th, April 5-20)
Komei Fukuda: Polyhedral Computation (Th/Fr, April 27-May 12)
Thorsten Theobald: Semidefinite Programming Methods (We/Fr, May 17-June 2)
Ileana Streinu: Rigidity (Th/Fr, June 8/9; We/Th, June 14/15, We/Th, June 28/29)
The courses are three weeks long, in each week they occupy two mornings, with exercises in the afternoon.
Week schedule: To be announced.
April 3./4.: Symposium on Discrete Mathematics at TU Berlin, with Main Speakers
with Award of the Rado Prize. Participation is highly recommended.
Monday afternoons, starting April 24: Lectures and Colloquium of the Graduate Program "Methods for Discrete Structures"
Regular Graduate Courses at TU include:
We will issue written certificates for successful completion of the
program.
There is a number of stipends of approximately 1000 EUR per month available for students with a diploma or master degree in a field related to the topics of the program (mathematics, computer science). Advanced diploma or master students can be considered as well if a feasible arrangement with their home institutions can be made. Students wishing to participate in the program using other financial resources are also encouraged to apply; the acceptance will be limited by the capacity of the courses.
Applications for stipends, with curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, thesis, areas of interest, and a letter of recommendation should be sent
For outside participants, we will try to help in finding suitable housing for the time of the visit to Berlin.
