How are our books shelfs organized?

It can be very usefull to know the shelving system, if you want to get a good orientation between all the math books in the library: The first level (two digits) of the call number is the subject area (like 51 = geometry), followed by a letter, which represents the subject category withing the area. The third level (two digits again) tells you the very specific topic of the book. If we have more books than one for the same topic, they are arranged in alphabetical order.
Did you know: our system, the Mathematics Subject Classification (MSC), is internationally known by almost every mathematician. More information here: https://ams.org/msc , or at our service desk.
Semester opening event: Tue., 24th of April, 6:00 pm

Continuing our tradition, Mathematics Library invites you to celebrate the coming semester with an exhibition opening in our reading rooms: We present a selection of works from the international artists group Oupeinpo (Ouvroir de peinture potentielle = Workshop for potential painting).
The Oupeinpo members apply self given (mathematical) rules to art. Sometimes playful, sometimes demanding, they find and show us the constraints of art.
The exhibition opening on Tuesday, the 24th of April at 6:00 pm is part of the International Week 2018 and is jointly organized with the Institut français Berlin.
There is an artists talk at Institut français Berlin at 3:00 pm. Please pay attention to the attached poster and program for more details!
We look forward seeing you!

We say hello to everyone who is new to us and those who already know us at the beginning of the summer semester 2018!
In order to make it easier for students who are new to the TU Berlin and / or to studying mathematics, we have compiled a few literature recommendations by professors and students. You can find them and the list to the left of our entrance. The list can also be found here on our website.
✌️☺ Have a happy and succesfull semester! ☺ ✌️

250 years ago, on March, the 21st of 1768, Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier was born in Auxerre, an ancient town in the middle of France. He was a pioneering physicist and mathematician, but also a politician, prefect and egyptologist. In math and physics he is especially famous for his Fourier series and analysis.
On the occasion of his 250th birthday, we present a small exhibition in our reading room.

- © SIAM
The journals of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) are most widely read and highly cited in the mathematical sciences. Due to a licence upgrade, from now on, Mathematics Library provides full electronic access to every article ever published in the SIAM journals within the IP range of TU Berlin.
Please find an overview of the journals here.
